Welcome to the Barony of Silver Rock

Housing Guidelines - Silver Rock

  1. All houses are done at the Baron of Silver Rock's discretion. Houses can be accepted or rejected at anytime.
  2. Homes are not currently taxed. The Barony reserves the right to initiate taxing at any time.
  3. Houses will only be built if the proper process is followed. If the steps aren't done correctly...the house isn't going to be built.
  4. Houses are expensive. The cost will depend on placement and what type or house it is. Certain areas within the Barony are more expensive to build in than others. Certain people may have more of a discount than others:
    • Those that are members of Barony Guilds
    • Those that serve in the Barony Militia
    • Those that are on the Barony's Staff
    • Those that have given back to the Barony (decided by Baron)
    •    Other discounts are possible
  5. Houses can be 1 - 5 rooms. You can ask to build a 5-room house, and may only be allowed to build a 2 or 3 room house. Once again it is up to the Barony leadership. If married both people must be citizens of Silver Rock.
  6. <OOC> If you leave Terris, your house goes. (This does not apply to Heroes/Barons/Immortals). Anyone else that buys a house now, when you leave, it leaves. The house will be kept on file with the Barony, but the house itself will be auctioned off or sold to another to use.
  7. From the day negotiations begin on your house if you are caught attacking or killing any innocents within the Barony of Silver Rock or it's lands you will lose your house. Simple as that, we aren't going to give gifts and rewards for the murder of those considered innocent by the Barony.
  8. If you leave Silver Rock and move to another Barony you will lose your house. It will be either auctioned off or resold to another buyer. <OOC> It will not move with you.
  9. You must be a Citizen of Silver Rock to build a house here. Citizens of anywhere else need not apply...this includes any and all holdings of Silver Rock.
  10. You must be a Citizen of rank to build a house. (Baronylevel ranking).
  11. Apartment Housing will be possible in Limited Areas Only. It will be less expensive, but limited, and will not include the niceties of a house. It may have a lock with no key, there will be no examines and no events.
  12. Process:
    • Ask permission of Baron (Brimbur).
    • Request this guidelines document
    • Discuss billing
    • Discuss placement
    • Discuss plans
    • Submit plans
    • Wait for building
  13. <OOC> The building must be RP'ed. It won't just spring up overnight.
  14. Plan submissions should be submitted in the following format. No line of text may exceed 65 characters, including spaces.
    • ROOM Use a Letter for planning (A, B, C, etc. - Actual room #'s will be asigned)
    • DESC1 This is the room title.
    • DESC2 Description of the room's contents goes here. Each
    • DESC3 line can hold up to sixty-five characters of text, and
    • DESC4 automatically wraps. Each room may have up to
    • DESC5 five lines of text.
    • EXITS (Direction) to (Room Letter)
    • Also indicate the layout of the area, either with notes or with a map.
    • Extra (Sign, Locked, Hidden)
  15. Examines - Will be done on case-by-case instance. They are by no means a given and they will be checked over and either accepted or rejected by the Baron and Baronstaff.
  16. Your house can be destroyed at anytime and will be explained in a land message. (In the case of accidental/unintentional destruction, alert the baron via e-mail and land message. A copy of your house and any subsequent tweaks may be of help, so be sure to save a backup copy).
  17. Deeds for houses and planning papers will NOT be accepted, so please don't waste gold on them.
  18. This Barony is zoned for proper spelling, grammar and appropriate “flavor” for this Barony and all are considered critical construction material. Inspections of the aforementioned must have a “passing” rating to allow the completion of building.
  19. Compliance is expected as a gesture of respect for your Barony. The Barony's leadership is in constant contact with the Divine Echelon and as such, the Baron will be informed when there are requests for special deals or relief from these rules. (requests of this nature that have not already come before the Baron will end the housing request process) If you have any questions about these rules, feel free to speak with Baron Brimbur.

Writing Styles

When writing rooms, keep these tips in mind:

  • No direction indicators. Be sure not to write stuff like "As you enter from the east..." Assumes players are entering from east, when there may be other entrances.
  • No mode of travel indicators. Don't write "You walk down the musty trail..." Assumes that players are walking, when they may be riding a mount or flying.
  • Use UK spellings. Colour instead of color. Defence instead of defense. Using British English helps preserve the original flavour (instead of flavor) of Terris.
  • No proper names in room titles. Don't name rooms "Axeblade's Room" or "Flaming Moe Household Lodge." We can't always tell a room belongs to Snuffy just by looking at it. Try relating Snuffy's ownership of the room through the room description. "The name Snuffy is scrawled on the floor in what appears to be whipped cream..."
  • Don't force actions on players. Things like "Axeblade examines a chair and smiles softly." Why is Axeblade smiling? What if Axeblade hates all chairs? No smiling for Axeblade! On the other hand, saying Axeblade examines the chair is okay if Axeblade had to type EX CHAIR first!
  • Avoid gratuitous use of the word "you." "As you enter you see that you are surrounded by mirrors showing a reflection of you!" In fact, try not to use the word "you" AT ALL.
  • Limit use of colours in room descriptions. Black Shore under the purple reign of Magiko. Need more be said? Too many text colours are distracting. Incidentally, room titles are automatically coloured yellow by the Terris Wizard.
